Redevelopment of a Historic Square
Cēsis Brūzis is the first phase proposal for a large scale redevelopment project in the conversion of a historic brewery in the medieval town of Cēsis, Latvia into an art and science center for the exhibition of Baltic contemporary artworks and natural plant-based medicine. The scheme involved the redesign of the interior of three buildings which define the square, a layout of the public park, and the addition of wooden structures where new construction would be added.
While many of the considerations resulted in subtle gestures to accommodate a multi-story museum, residency, kitchen, parking and public square most notably is the insertion of narrow wooden structures that accommodate for additional programs to the site: vertical circulation, a cafe and bathrooms. The negotiated programs of a multi-story museum, residency, kitchen, parking and public square are housed within the existing buildings. Construction of this initial phase is set to begin in the summer of 2018.
